2026 Glenthorne Trip

Staffordshire Friends’ Weekend in the Lake District, 17-19 April 2026

Plans for our trip

A weekend break (Friday afternoon/evening to Sunday lunch) is being arranged at the
Quaker guest house Glenthorne for April 2026 (the accommodation is fully booked for
groups during 2025). Glenthorne and Grasmere have much to offer – if you haven’t been
before, it is well worth the experience and you are welcome to bring family and friends who
may not be Quakers. Further details are on the Glenthorne web site https://glenthorne.org/

Things to see and do

The house is situated in a quiet location but within easy walking distance of Grasmere
with its countryside walks and shops. At Glenthorne itself, you can usually see red squirrels
in the grounds. Further afield are the Quaker Tapestry at Kendal (18 miles), the
Ravenglass and Eskdale steam railway (16 miles), the Pencil Museum and Puzzling Place
(interactive optical illusions) both in Keswick (13 miles), Beatrix Potter’s house at Sawrey
(11 miles) and Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage (1 mile) amongst many other places of interest.
We usually have a poetry/quiz/music evening on Saturday and Meeting for Worship (all who
would like to attend are welcome) in the meeting room at Glenthorne on Sunday morning.

Cost: £205 per person for the weekend, including all meals (reduced rates for children).

Booking: James Went is making all the arrangements. Ask your Local Meeting Clerk for contact details.

Payment: £25 deposit payable in August 2024. Then three installments of £60 due in March 2025, October 2025, and 3rd April 2026.

Travel: If travelling by rail, the nearest station is Windermere – then by bus or taxi.

Insurance: It is recommended that you take out holiday insurance for the weekend in case
of last minute cancellation: this would refund your loss of deposits and typically costs less than
£10 per person for a weekend away.
