In the late 17th century, Quakers were meeting in the Lichfield area in private dwelling houses, but records show that they had disappeared in the early part of the 18th century. A Meeting was re-established in Lichfield in 1816, but close 13 years later. The present Quaker meeting in Martin Heath Hall, which is rented from Christ Church, was established 1993 and has continued to flourish ever since.
In 1996, Lichfield Friends participated in the ‘Churches Together’ Lenten study on the theme ‘Building Bridges’. One of the Friends gave a talk in Lichfield Cathedral about George Fox’s notorious visit to Lichfield in 1651 and how present day Quaker faith and practice relates to some of Fox’s ministry around that time. Samuel Johnson’s biographer, Boswell, visited him in Lichfield in 1776, and in his book ‘Life of Johnson’ he observed that “ I have always loved the simplicity of manners of Quakers; and I observed that many a man was a Quaker without knowing it.“

Held every Sunday from 9.45 am to 10.45 am, followed by tea / coffee and biscuits.
Children’s Class
None at present. However, children are welcome to attend, but we would appreciate prior warning so that we can make proper arrangements for them.

Directions. From the traffic island at the junction of the A51, A461 &A5127, take the A461 towards Cannock & Walsall. In about 150 metres there is a set of pedestrian lights. About 40 metres past these lights turn right into Christchurch Lane. Proceed to the top of the lane (i.e. where it turns sharp left). Martin Heath Hall (i.e. the Friends Meeting) is on the right. There is a small car park at the rear of the Hall.
